The Beartooth is a modern all-season hardtail with contemporary geometry and spec that's up to the challenge of just about any trail at any time of year.

Plus bikes are in-between a hardtail mountain bike and a fat tire bike. On the spectrum between summer and winter riding, the traits that distinguish the three different bike types (Mountain, Plus, Fat) are the width and diameter of the wheel and tire, the width of the bikes' chainstay and seatstay, and whether the fork has suspension.

The tire width of a new + bike is typically 3 inches while the typical Fat tire bike width is about 4.5." Mountain bike tires for summer riding are about 2.1" wide. A Plus bike like the Beartooth is faster on packed snow than a Fat bike but a Fat bike is better for softer, deeper snow. A hardtail sinks into snow except when it is a very hard surface (ice) in which case it would slip unless set up with studs.

To accommodate a 3" wide tire the chainstay and seatstay of the + bike frame is wider than that of a hardtail but not as wide as those on a Fatty. Consequently, + bikes are almost always lighter. The Beartooth's frame is wide enough to accept a tire that is up to 3.5" wide. While they're not available yet, a 27-5 x 3.5 studded tire would be ideal for most winter riding. When summer comes, switch back to the original 3" wide knobby tire and when that wears out to an even narrower tire with the tread of your choice thereby making your + bike into a durable all-season bike.

Plus bikes have 27.5" wheels and tires and a front suspension fork. Fatties almost always feature 26" wheels and a rigid fork.

The foregoing traits make + bikes very versatile and the "the next big thing" in the bike industry.
